Product Details

Our luxuriously soft beach towels are made from brushed microfiber with a 100% cotton back for extra absorption.   The top of the towel has the image printed on it, and the back is white cotton.   Our beach towels are available in two different sizes: beach towel (32" x 64") and beach sheet (37" x 74").

Don't let the fancy name confuse you... a beach sheet is just a large beach towel.

Artist's Description

This is soil in an early pioneer stage of ecological succession. There is very little organic material and little life or evidence of microbial activity. The habitat is homogeneous and compacted. The soil in this stage is fragile; prone to erosion and loss of nutrients. Two small flagellates, some of the hardy life forms that can survive these harsh conditions, scout for bacteria to eat. In time, this soil can develop into a complex habitat rich with diverse life forms.

About Kate Solbakk

Kate Solbakk

My goal is to inspire curiosity by imagining how microscopic creatures might look if we could see them in their natural habitats, and view them as amazing wildlife rather than "specimens" in a laboratory. Many of us are unsettled by the thought of invisible microscopic life forms all around us, so I try to balance the "ick factor" by showing that these creatures can be beautiful. The microscopic world is truly fantastic and offers a lot of inspiration for fantasy themes, which you will see in some of my more playful work like the hookah-smoking tardigrade inspired by the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. I hope my art can help bring us a little bit closer to the mysterious world of microbiology that is the foundation for all our...
